China's medical insurance authority and seven platforms jointly call for gig workers to join employee medical insurance
China's National Healthcare Security Administration recently issued a joint initiative urging gig and platform workers to enroll in employee medical insurance, co-signed by seven platforms including Meituan, Taobao Shangou, SF Intra-city, ZTO Express, Caocao Mobility, T3 Go and Didi. The initiative proposes exploring an 'individual contribution plus platform subsidy' model. By the end of 2024, China had 84 million new-employment-form workers, with an employee medical insurance enrollment rate of about 34.9%.
